Bimatoprost Timolol is a combination of components for treating certain eye conditions such as controlling the development of open-angle glaucoma and management of the ocular hypertension condition. Bimatoprost is a synthetic prostaglandin analogue which is used as eye drop. Timolol maleate is known as a beta-adrenergic receptor blocking agent. It is soluble in water, alcohol or methanol while Bimatoprost slightly soluble in water but in ethyl and methyl alcohol it is very soluble.
Bimatoprost Timolol which has been combined to decrease the above-mentioned eye conditions has been proven more effective compared to administering each component separately to patients. The decrease in the elevation of intraocular pressure (IOP) has been the effect of these two components Bimatoprost Timolol. It has been proven through crossover studies that it has a quick beginning of action.
To explain further, Bimatoprost resembles and imitate the natural substance produced by the body. It increases the natural flow of natural eye fluids out from the eyes which reduces the pressures in the eye. The extent of the effect could be up to 1 day.
Timolol on the other hand, due to its non-selective beta-adrenergic receptor which serves as blocking agent then restores the occurrence of biological response when prompted by the receptor. The exactness of the action of Bimatoprost Timolol components to lower intraocular pressure (IOP) has not been apparently established until now. But according to flourescein and tonography studies, their actions can be connected to a lessened formation of aqueous.
The administering of Bimatoprost Timolol on patients suffering from open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension can be done every day but only once during the day or night. Apply pressure on the tear duct to reduce systemic absorption. In cases that there are other topical ophthalmic solutions that you are using make sure to wait for at least 20 minutes before application of the next medication.
However, if patients are suffering from bronchial asthma or acute chronic disease on the pulmonary system, Bimatoprost timolol should be consulted first with your doctor. In addition, sinus bradycardia or overt cardiac failure or commonly called cardiogenic shock should also be given important emphasis. This is to avoid getting yourself into tricky and serious situations.
During the application of the Bimatoprost Timolol medication, consider the following side effects. Darkening of the surrounding skin in the eyelid, there will be pigmentation on the irises which will eventually lead to different appearance of each eye especially if you are only administering to one infected eye. Some of these changes can be permanent so be ready for the consequences. This will not cause much concern if the positive results it will provide are much higher than the risks.
Apparently, there is an increase in the growth in your eyelashes when you use this topical application. It may increase its length and the color may darken and the thickness of the eyelashes will increase. But there is nothing to be alarmed with regards to this side-effect. Just be careful with the application on each eye.
