Initially, Bimatoprost component was indicated for treating certain eye conditions like open-angle glaucoma and intraocular hypertension. But during the clinical studies it was observed that the patients being treated with Bimatoprost has increased the length of their eyelashes. Along with the increase was the darkening of the colors and noticeable increase in the thickness. The Bimatoprost offshoot for treating eye conditions has been given over time the approval for cosmetic medication. Bimatoprost with lower dosage was made to be used as treatment for short eyelashes.
However, Bimatoprost hair growth is being studied since it has its effect on hair of the eyelashes. There are ongoing studies about it but has not yet approved by FDA. Many people grow their curiosity since the product has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration in the name of Latisse. Apparently, the effect on the eyelashes made every one came to the idea that Bimatoprost hair growth can treat hair loss problems.
Bimatoprost hair growth is different from growing the eyelashes longer. Bimatoprost can increase the length, make it darker and thicker but it has not yet proven that it can grow hair on the follicles especially in the head. The potential of Bimatoprost to restore the scalp hair and eventually fight baldness has yet to be proven.
The bimatoprost for growing the length of the eyelashes does not contain any ingredient like the ones present in medication intended for male pattern baldness or simple hair loss for men and women. Thus, bimatoprost hair growth still has a long way to go before its real application.
The ingredient bimatoprost has been known to be derived from fatty acids which have been intended to combine to prostaglandin receptors. These prostaglandin receptors are said to be present in the hair especially in the outer root follicle. Apparently, how Bimatoprost do its works has not been established until the recent time. It has been allegedly believed to increase relative amount of hairs in the follicles and then prolonging its stage. Consequently, many had assumed the fact that Bimatoprost component could change the fine and vellus hair nearing to baldness into a recurring growth of hair.
But the question still remains to be sought, if bimatoprost for glaucoma and growing eyelashes longer, thicker and darker can actually be used to grow hair in the head and also make it darker and thicker. The makers of Bimatoprost are in rigorous laboratory studies to find out the future affectivity of bimatoprost for treating hair loss thus achieving hair growth.
But until then, Bimatoprost is still approved by Food and Drug Administration for the sole purposes of treating open-angle type of glaucoma and managing the ocular hypertension condition. Bimatoprost hair growth is still on the waiting but until that time comes, those who have problems with hair loss should not resort to using bimatoprost. There are many available and FDA approved medications for the treatment on problems of hair especially those commonly encountered by middle aged men and women.
