Lumigan Latisse are brand names used for treating ocular hypertension or glaucoma and growing eyelashes respectively. Both have gained the approval from FDA to be used as treatment for both eye conditions. Many individuals who tried on using the products have much to say for getting the positive results they wanted.
Both Lumigan Latisse contains the active ingredient bimatoprost which is the key factor in the affectivity of the medications. They belong to the category of prostaglandin analog which is in the forms of eye drop solution. Lumigan helps in reducing and in the management of ocular hypertension or the open-type of glaucoma. This is the number one leading cause of loss of vision in America. Latisse on the other hand, is an offshoot of Lumigan. While patients were being treated with Lumigan medication, it was observed that they have grown their eyelashes in substantial manner. Apparently, in 2001 the cosmetic medication for Latisse was also given the approval by FDA.
While Lumigan Latisse are treatment used for the eyes, they differ in their application. Lumigan is being applied directly into the eyes but Latisse on the other hand is being applied at the base margin of the upper eyelid. But there are also certain things which they are in common. Like when a patient has been using a soft contact lens, it should be removed before applying the solution.
Additionally, both Lumigan Latisse is recommended to be applied during the night when there is no more work to be done and when you are ready to retire from the many labors during the day. It is also preferred that somebody else should put the application to avoid spills and miscalculations when you do it yourself.
However, when asked to be applied by someone, instruct them to wash their hands properly before they handle the medication. Lumigan Latisse has sensitive applicators which should not be touched on the tip to avoid contamination.
They should also not to be put in direct sunlight and in moist places so bathroom is not a proper location for Lumigan Latisse. Both should be kept away from the children and women who are pregnant. Nursing mothers should also stay away from the product.
Both Lumigan Latisse also has common side effects. A patient will experience itchiness in their eyes for both the products. Dryness will also be common and it may cause permanent pigmentation especially in the surrounding skin of the eyes.
Apparently, these side effects do not poses high risks with regards to your health. It will eventually pass once the medication progresses. But permanency in the eye pigmentation will be evident especially if you are only treating for one infected eye.
Be aware that both Lumigan Latisse should not be taken for granted especially with missed dosage. Make sure you are religiously applying the product to ensure full and positive results. Discontinuation of both the ophthalmic solutions without proper consultation from your doctor will cause a high risk of getting reversed side effects.
