Latisse is a world widely known ophthalmic solution used to help the growth of eyelashes to thicker, longer and fuller. This solution is the only product that has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as treatment for Hypotrichosis, a condition which refers to abnormal hair growth.
This treatment contains bimatoprost, a synthetic prostaglandins which takes care of Hypotrichosis. Originally, Lumigan was the first manufactured by Allergan, Inc. It contains bimatoprost which is purposely formulated to treat the elevated pressure in the eyes. During treatment, patients who were under in bimatoprost medication were observed to have changes in their eyelashes. After which, the Allergan, Inc. decided to create a new solution that is mainly for treatment of Hypotrichosis. Hypotrichosis takes place when an old hair is replaced with sparse, short and brittle. That solution is now popularly known as Latisse, the answer to Hypotrichosis problem. The active ingredient in Latisse, which is the bimatoprost, acts as a messenger molecule receptor which stimulates the hair follicles in the eyelid for a normal growth of hair.
Since this is an ophthalmic solution, a lot of people have been curious of the side effect it would cause, and FDA had dispensed the information to public consumers and distributors that this medicine should be sold and acquired with doctor’s prescription.
As to Latisse’ side effects, given that it contains bimatoprost which is also an active ingredient in Lumigan, the possibility of experiencing the side effects carried by the Lumigan drug is the same as to the users of Latisse.
